Summarize Proust in 5 words or less

(Written by me)

 Love and society are illusory.

Time changes everything.

 A bygone era is remembered.

  1. From reading your blogs >>>>
    Time is the only reality
    We are defined by society
    Society sees but doesn't understand
Ergo, We allow ourselves to be defined by a lack of understanding (sorry not 5 words)
Can self definition and society co-exist? Is that what led to Thoreau?

  2. "Time is the only reality" is excellent. You are on to the right path with your other comments, and I applaud your amazing comprehension of my inadequate writing and editing skills.

Proust sees society as fluid, allowing outsiders to rise, as in the case of Morel and Mme Verdurin, and allows aristocrats to become insignificant, such as the Baron de Charlus and the Duc de Guermantes. This is all under the umbrella of time, memory and change culminating in the last volume.

    1. Well, I can do it in 9 words:

      Boy has Time
      Boy loses Time
      Man regains Time

      Voila!
